An interactive journey through Dutch history
How do you make the stories of the past accessible, inspiring and connecting for business visitors? It Dutch Open Air Museum asked us that question. Together, we developed an interactive journey of discovery that takes participants through Dutch history in a playful way.

Connection and experience in one concept
The Dutch Open Air Museum was looking for a unique experience for business groups of 250+ guests. An activity that connects participants through the rich history of the Netherlands.
An experience that motivates and inspires players to engage with each other:
- Teams that work together in an interactive and entertaining way.
- Historical stories that bring together current themes and game elements.
- A tangible reminder that participants take home or can purchase separately.

In the footsteps
Together with the Dutch Open Air Museum, we developed the concept “In the footsteps”: an interactive journey of discovery that is about cooperation, in which and the stories behind Dutch history.
History can be viewed from many angles and discovered in various ways. What do you know about your ancestors? Or from your great-great-grandparents? What kind of people were they? What did they do in their spare time, did they have it at all? How did they have fun? What did they do for work? In short, how did they write and color history, on a large and small scale? And what would you do if you were in their shoes? In the footsteps...!

From discovery to lasting memory
Teams set out with a map and story maps, linked to locations in the museum. Along the way, they carry out assignments: from search to action, each with a link to life in the past. They send the results to the host or hostess via WhatsApp. All answers together form an ending sentence, which is revealed during the closure.
To take the experience home, we developed a quartet game. A tangible memory with additional stories and characters that deepens the museum experience and gives people back home the opportunity to chat and further share stories about what they experienced. A keepsake and a strategic tool for expanding the museum's reach and arousing the interest of new target groups.

History that lingers
'In the footsteps' lets history live!
The combination of historical stories, interactive assignments and joint closure brings teams closer together and makes history tangible and relevant. A concept that proves how to translate heritage into connection and experience.
These effect makers provided just that little bit extra!
